To the Ocean

Magic isn’t real.

“BlackBox have absolutely triumphed in their attempt to create a modern fairytale. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️” – Owl Eyes.

“Magic isn’t real. That’s the first thing that you should know – and if the choice to begin our fairy story in this way is a bit shocking to you, that’s because. Well. This isn’t like any other fairy story you’ve heard before.”

Last November, BoxedIn theatre teemed up with BlackBox devising company to create To the Ocean, a short piece of site-specific theatre inspired by the Selkie myth. Audiences entered in to a world of you in to a world of family, freedom, and joined us on one young girls journey through a family ripped apart, and her need to piece it all back together.

All of this took place in the intimate setting of St Andrews’ very own harbour café, meaning there were a total of 51 seats available.

We only performed for 3 days – but don’t worry if you missed out, because those performances were just research for the real deal. This summer, To the Ocean will be touring as part of our Back of the Van trilogy before coming with us to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Quite exciting for such a cute little play!

Below you can find some of the photographs from the dress run of our show – if you have any questions and comments, or just want some more information, please feel free to get in touch!
